Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical downtown budget pick, provided you can handle the noise. a no-frills budget hotel in Guatemala City's historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Sevilla is a no-frills budget hotel in Zona 1, and we'd consider it for a short, sightseeing-focused stay. The appeal is straightforward: private bathrooms, a handy restaurant and walking access to the cathedral, Central Market and Sixth Avenue. Recent Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, while several also single out helpful staff. It's a sensible base rather than somewhere to spend the day relaxing.

Street noise is the clearest recurring drawback, with complaints across several sites; request a room away from the road. Rooms are plainly furnished, some guests find the mattresses very hard, and a recent Booking.com guest reported limited ventilation. Accessibility information conflicts between booking sites, so confirm elevator access directly if stairs are a problem. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat or polished, full-service comfort.

• Best for: budget-minded historic-center visitors; short city stays; travelers happy with simple rooms

• Watch out for: recurring street noise; hard mattresses and limited ventilation in some rooms; conflicting elevator information

• Location: Walkable access to the cathedral, Central Market and Sixth Avenue is a principal strength.

• Rooms: Basic private-bathroom rooms; noise is recurring, with some complaints about hard beds and ventilation.

• Cleanliness: A relative strength, supported by recent guest comments across several sites.

• Service: Several recent guests praise helpful, welcoming staff, though feedback is not uniformly positive.

• Amenities: Restaurant, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; confirm elevator access because listings disagree.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists breakfast and airport transfers as extra; Hotels.com lists free but limited onsite parking.
