Axel's take: 8.2/10

A practical Andares base if you prefer independence to full hotel service. a simple, self-check-in apartment-style hotel near Andares, scored for what it is.

OLSON is a simple, apartment-style hotel with self-check-in, rather than a conventional full-service property. Its strongest asset is the location near Andares and Landmark: a useful base for shopping, restaurants and business in this part of Zapopan. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise the location, comfort and cleanliness. We'd pick it for a short, independent stay; free parking and in-room kitchen facilities in some categories add practical value.

The trade-off is a lighter service setup: entry uses a code, there is no conventional front desk, and housekeeping needs requesting. Noise from nightlife and other guests appears in reviews, although plenty report comfortable stays. Wi-Fi feedback is mixed, so bring a backup if work depends on it. We'd skip it if you need reliably quiet nights or readily available, in-person assistance.

• Best for: Independent travelers visiting Andares; Short business stays in Zapopan; Shoppers arriving by car

• Watch out for: Nightlife and neighboring-room noise; Code-based arrival without a conventional front desk; Mixed Wi-Fi reliability

• Location: Near Andares and Landmark, with shopping and restaurants the main draw rather than Guadalajara's historic center.

• Rooms: Studios, rooms and suites vary in size and kitchen facilities; check the exact category before booking.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant problem.

• Service: Guests often praise responsive assistance, but the self-service setup is not a substitute for a staffed front desk.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and parking; the official site and recent guests confirm an elevator despite contradictory booking-site listings.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is listed as included, with limited spaces; arrange arrival codes and request housekeeping.
