Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical downtown base, but aging rooms make comfort less consistent. an older, no-frills 3-star in Guadalajara’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Fenix is an older, no-frills 3-star whose strongest asset is its historic-center location, two blocks from Guadalajara Cathedral. It’s a good pick for travelers who prioritize sightseeing on foot over modern interiors. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, spacious rooms and cleanliness, while included parking adds practical value. We’d choose it as a straightforward city base rather than somewhere to spend the day relaxing.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep. Recent guests describe noisy or leaking air-conditioning and occasional plumbing problems; street noise and unreliable Wi-Fi also surface across review sites. These aren’t everyone’s experience, but they’re worth taking seriously. Check the air-conditioning and bathroom when you arrive, and confirm whether breakfast is included. We’d skip it for light sleepers or anyone needing dependable in-room internet.

• Best for: historic-center sightseeing; budget-conscious city breaks; travelers arriving by car

• Watch out for: aging air-conditioning and uneven maintenance; street noise in some rooms; inconsistent in-room Wi-Fi

• Location: Two blocks from the cathedral, with central sights and light-rail stations within walking distance.

• Rooms: Generally spacious but dated; recent reports flag air-conditioning and plumbing faults.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is mostly positive, though standards are not uniformly praised.

• Service: Helpful reception staff and bell staff earn repeated praise; individual experiences vary.

• Amenities: Restaurant, lobby bar, free parking and Wi-Fi; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

• Fees and surprises: Garage height restrictions apply; late checkout and extra beds can incur charges.
