Axel's take: 7.3/10
A sensible base for drivers, with good breakfast but fairly basic rooms. A practical 4-star chain hotel outside central Gothenburg, scored for what it is.
Scandic Backadal is a practical 4-star chain hotel roughly six kilometres north of central Gothenburg, better suited to a stopover than a walk-everywhere city break. We'd pick it for straightforward comfort and useful facilities rather than four-star polish. Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise breakfast and friendly staff; the indoor pool, sauna and gym add appeal for families. A September 2026 guest reports using the pool after its earlier renovation closure.
The trade-off is the accommodation: rooms are often described as small and simple, especially with extra family beds, and some guests find the interiors tired. Cleanliness feedback is broadly positive, though not flawless. Parking costs extra, and breakfast isn't included in every booking. We'd skip it if central restaurants, sightseeing on foot or spacious rooms matter more than easy road access.
