Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong central base for comfort, with a few five-star inconsistencies. a renovated five-star business hotel in central Frankfurt, scored for what it is.

The Westin Grand Frankfurt is a renovated five-star business hotel that makes a strong base for shopping and sightseeing. Its position beside the Zeil and Konstablerwache station is the biggest advantage, backed by comfortable rooms and useful wellness facilities. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, beds and helpful staff; breakfast also earns consistently warm feedback. We'd choose it for an easy city stay rather than intimate, characterful luxury.

The trade-offs are mostly about consistency. Some recent guests report weak air-conditioning, while Tripadvisor feedback on reception communication and the club lounge is mixed, particularly its daytime food selection. Parking costs extra, and lounge access isn't standard with every room. We'd skip the lounge upgrade if substantial daytime refreshments matter, and look elsewhere if you expect flawless, highly personal five-star service.

• Best for: city breaks and shopping; business travelers; travelers wanting a pool and gym

• Watch out for: some reports of weak air-conditioning; mixed club lounge feedback; paid parking

• Location: Beside the Zeil and Konstablerwache station, with the old town within walking distance.

• Rooms: Modernized in the 2022 renovation; comfort is widely praised, though some guests report cooling problems.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, with occasional reception communication lapses.

• Amenities: Indoor heated pool, sauna, spa treatments and a 24-hour gym; club access depends on eligibility.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets incur charges; check breakfast and lounge inclusions before booking.
