Stay here for the Frankfurt you can explore without planning every journey: Römerberg, the reconstructed lanes around Markt, the cathedral and the Main connect naturally on foot. Head north for Kleinmarkthalle and the Zeil. This is the straightforward first-visit choice rather than the most residential one.
The trade-off is foot traffic, chain retail and a tourist-facing atmosphere around the historic squares. Choose a side street rather than a major square if sleep matters. The northern end also puts Alte Gasse's LGBTQ+ bars within walking distance. Skip it if your ideal base is a leafy neighborhood with little evening activity.
