Axel's take: 8.6/10

Classic Frankfurt grandeur and excellent breakfasts, with some uneven rooms and construction opposite. a historic 5-star grand hotel in central Frankfurt, scored for what it is.

The Frankfurter Hof is a historic 5-star grand hotel, and a strong pick for travelers who prefer traditional elegance to minimalist luxury. Its central location makes exploring the old town easy. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, generous bathrooms, cleanliness and an extensive breakfast buffet. Staff also earn plenty of warm reviews. We'd choose it for a city break with a proper grand-hotel atmosphere.

The caveat is consistency: some guests describe dated rooms, maintenance problems and service recovery that falls short of five-star expectations. Ask about the room's condition rather than assuming every category looks equally fresh. Opposite the hotel, the URBN office redevelopment on Bethmannstraße remains under construction, with completion planned in 2027; light sleepers should request a room away from it. We'd skip it if uniformly modern rooms and faultless luxury service are essential.

• Best for: travelers who enjoy traditional grand hotels; walkable Frankfurt city breaks; central business stays

• Watch out for: URBN construction opposite through 2027; variable room condition; occasional maintenance and service lapses

• Location: Excellent central base near the old town, shopping and Willy-Brandt-Platz transit.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms draw praise; some rooms feel dated or need maintenance.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall across booking sites, with recent guests regularly praising clean rooms.

• Service: Usually friendly and attentive, though handling problems is not consistently five-star.

• Amenities: Spa, fitness area, OSCAR's brasserie, Autorenbar and a much-praised breakfast buffet.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the package; valet parking costs extra. The official site currently advertises complimentary spa access.
