Axel's take: 7.9/10

A practical Messe base with generous rooms, a skyline pool and dated interiors. A large, traditional 4-star business hotel beside Frankfurt’s Messe, scored for what it is.

Maritim Hotel Frankfurt is a large, traditional 4-star conference hotel whose strongest asset is its direct connection to the Messe and Congress Center. We'd pick it for trade fairs or Festhalle events rather than a design-led city break. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; breakfast also earns strong feedback. The eighth-floor indoor pool adds something genuinely useful beyond the business-hotel basics.

The compromise is age: guests across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor describe older furnishings and bathrooms, even when they find the rooms clean and comfortable. Parking is expensive, and the hotel charges separately for the gym and sauna, with some membership exceptions. It's a good, functional choice if event access matters most; we'd look closer to the old town for sightseeing on foot or elsewhere for contemporary interiors.

• Best for: Messe and conference visitors; Festhalle concertgoers; Families wanting connecting rooms and a pool

• Watch out for: Dated furnishings and bathrooms; Expensive parking; gym and sauna surcharges; Less convenient for old-town sightseeing on foot

• Location: Direct Congress Center connection, beside the Messe and Festhalle, with tram and U-Bahn nearby.

• Rooms: Standard rooms are a generous 30 square metres; comfort gets praise, but interiors show their age.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, with occasional housekeeping criticisms.

• Service: Recent feedback is predominantly positive about friendly, helpful staff.

• Amenities: Eighth-floor indoor pool, restaurants, bar and free Wi-Fi; gym and sauna carry separate charges.

• Fees and surprises: Budget for paid external-operator parking, tourist tax and breakfast unless included.
