Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong sightseeing base with useful kitchenettes, excellent staff and compact rooms. a modern, self-catering aparthotel near Dublin Castle, scored for what it is.

Staycity Dublin Castle is a modern aparthotel, not a full-service luxury hotel, and it delivers well on that basis. Its central location makes exploring on foot easy, while kitchenettes add practical value beyond a standard hotel room. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness and helpful reception team. We'd pick it for a city break where convenience and self-catering matter more than extensive facilities.

The main compromise is space: several guests find the studios cramped, and warm rooms without air conditioning are another recurring concern. Staycity confirms there is no daily housekeeping; stays under seven nights have no scheduled clean, with additional cleaning charged separately. There's a café for snacks rather than elaborate dining, and no on-site parking. Skip it if you want spacious rooms, reliable cooling or daily hotel-style servicing.

• Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; solo travelers wanting a kitchenette; car-free city stays

• Watch out for: compact studios; warm rooms without air conditioning; no daily housekeeping

• Location: Central and walkable for Dublin Castle, the cathedrals and Temple Bar.

• Rooms: Well-equipped kitchenettes and generally comfortable beds; studio size and overheating draw recurring complaints.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest reviews, despite the limited housekeeping schedule.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a standout across several review sites.

• Amenities: 24-hour reception, Wi-Fi, guest laundry and a café serving pastries, snacks, pizzas and drinks.

• Fees and surprises: Extra cleaning and early check-in can cost more; parking is off-site, and breakfast is extra.
