Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong seaside boutique choice, especially for food, friendly service and harbour views. a boutique 4-star in Victorian townhouses on Dún Laoghaire’s seafront, scored for what it is.

Haddington House is a boutique 4-star spread across Victorian townhouses on Dún Laoghaire’s seafront, rather than in central Dublin. It’s a strong pick for a coastal break with good food: Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and welcoming staff, while Tripadvisor’s recent reviews applaud the refurbished sea-view rooms. Oliveto restaurant and the Parlour cocktail bar give it appeal beyond the bedrooms.

Choose your room carefully: some doubles are compact, not every category has a sea view, and recent guests on two sites report uncomfortable warmth and limited ventilation. Parking is first come, first served; check whether breakfast is included. We’d skip it for a city-centre sightseeing sprint or a stay with young children—the hotel’s current policy accepts children aged ten and over.

• Best for: couples on a coastal break; food and cocktail enthusiasts; travelers who prefer seaside walks to city-centre bustle

• Watch out for: some compact rooms and reports of summer warmth; limited first-come parking; children must be aged ten or over

• Location: Harbour-front setting near the pier and DART stations; outside central Dublin.

• Rooms: Refurbished rooms draw strong praise for beds and decor; sizes and views vary, with some ventilation complaints.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent positive Tripadvisor reviews.

• Service: Warm, helpful reception staff are repeatedly singled out; occasional breakfast-service complaints.

• Amenities: Oliveto restaurant, Parlour cocktail bar, outdoor seating and guest bicycles are the main draws.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking is limited, and the hotel says wheelchair entry requires advance assistance.
