Axel's take on I-44 & Memorial Drive: #6 of 7 in Tulsa, 3.7/10
A functional road-trip stop, not a rewarding Tulsa base. The strongest value and a broad hotel selection suit driving stopovers, but sparse nearby attractions and little neighborhood character keep it sixth overall.
The Memorial Drive interchange is a stopover strip of frontage roads, commercial lots and everyday businesses. Its appeal is straightforward: access to I-44 and the Broken Arrow Expressway when driving between appointments or breaking a longer journey. Memorial Midtown Station also gives this stretch more bus usefulness than its streetscape suggests.
That does not make it an enjoyable sightseeing base. The road layout offers little incentive to wander, and even nearby errands need planning around large junctions. Choose it for a specific driving itinerary; otherwise South Tulsa offers a more useful suburban stay, while downtown is much better for discovering the city on foot.
- Best for: travelers on a budget, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: You will not have a car; You want a neighborhood to explore
- Getting around: Routes 201 and 250 serve Memorial/Memorial Midtown Station; 201 reaches TUL Monday–Saturday, but most local errands are easier by car.
- After dark: Think interchange rather than bar district: make dinner and return-transport plans instead of relying on a late-night neighborhood stroll.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $88 a night · usually 8% under the public rate
