Axel's take on La Floresta: #4 of 5 in Quito, 7.1/10
Quito’s best balance of neighborhood character, food and relaxed evenings. La Floresta has the strongest neighborhood character and good access, but limited hotel choice and weaker value leave it fourth.
Stay here for a neighborhood you can enjoy between sightseeing trips. Independent cinema at Ocho y Medio, murals and cafés give the streets around Valladolid, Madrid and Vizcaya a creative identity without turning the whole place into a nightlife strip. Eating ranges from contemporary Ecuadorian cooking to traditional stalls around Parque Navarro, also known as Parque de las Tripas.
This is our best all-round choice for travelers who value dinner and neighborhood atmosphere as much as monuments. Recent visitors favor its local feel and walkable food scene. The compromise is transport: the Metro is not on your doorstep, and hills make longer walks less casual than they look. Skip it if you want to walk straight into the historic sights.
- Best for: first-time visitors, couples, food lovers, museums and culture
- Skip it if: You need a Metro station on your doorstep; You want the main historic sights within an easy walk
- Getting around: Cafés and restaurants are walkable; Ecovía on 6 de Diciembre requires a walk west, while Metro El Ejido is farther. From UIO, take an airport taxi/transfer or a bus to Río Coca, then Ecovía and a final walk.
- After dark: Expect dinner, conversation and cinema rather than continuous clubbing; Quito Tourism recommends active streets near Ocho y Medio and a taxi or app ride back.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $111 a night · usually 18% under the public rate
