Axel's take: 8.8/10

Spacious rooms and strong cleanliness make this a dependable Altoona base. a modern, family-friendly 3-star in suburban Altoona, scored for what it is.

This modern 3-star in Altoona is a strong pick for families who want room to spread out rather than a downtown address. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise clean, spacious rooms and comfortable beds; Hyatt confirms every room has a sleeper sofa. Free breakfast, free parking and an indoor pool make the practical side easy, while the pond-facing patio adds somewhere pleasant to unwind. The outlets are across the street, with Adventureland and Prairie Meadows nearby.

The main caveat is connectivity: internet and TV problems recur in guest feedback, and Wi-Fi scores noticeably below other categories on Booking.com. Breakfast earns plenty of praise, but some recent guests report uneven food quality or hours that start too late for early departures. Service is usually warmly reviewed, with occasional check-in and staffing hiccups. We'd choose it for a family weekend; skip it for a walkable downtown stay or work requiring dependable Wi-Fi.

  • Best for: families visiting Adventureland; outlet-shopping weekends; road-trippers with a car

  • Watch out for: recurring Wi-Fi and TV complaints; uneven breakfast experience; limited walkability beyond the outlets

  • Location: Across from the outlets in Altoona, roughly eight miles from Des Moines; a car helps beyond nearby shopping.

  • Rooms: Generously sized rooms with sleeper sofas and minifridges; comfortable beds receive consistent praise.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength across major review sites, including recent guest feedback.

  • Service: Mostly friendly and accommodating, though some guests describe staffing and check-in problems.

  • Amenities: Free breakfast, heated indoor pool, 24-hour gym and a pond-facing patio; do not expect an outdoor pool.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking is free; dogs incur a fee and have weight limits, with additional cleaning charges for longer stays.
