Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical interstate stop with friendly staff, but uneven upkeep holds it back. a full-service 3-star hotel beside I-80/I-35 in Urbandale, scored for what it is.

This full-service 3-star in Urbandale is a good fit for an interstate overnight or northwest Des Moines business trip. Free parking and an attached Bennigan’s make the logistics easy. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms, although the overall picture is more dependable stopover than polished getaway.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep. Despite IHG advertising updated rooms, recent guests still describe worn furnishings and carpets, with recurring complaints about weak shower pressure and temperamental air conditioning. Cleanliness feedback is mostly positive, but not uniformly so. Breakfast generally costs extra, and the hotel’s conflicting shuttle information makes advance confirmation essential. We’d choose it for convenience with a car, not for a walkable city break or a consistently fresh-feeling hotel.

• Best for: interstate road-trippers; northwest Des Moines business travelers; travelers who prefer on-site dining

• Watch out for: uneven room condition and maintenance; weak shower pressure and occasional AC problems; breakfast extra; confirm shuttle arrangements

• Location: Easy I-80/I-35 access in Urbandale; better suited to driving than exploring on foot.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but dated furnishings, weak showers and AC faults recur.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive room feedback, tempered by recent reports of dirty carpets and housekeeping misses.

• Service: Friendly, accommodating front-desk staff are a consistent strength; restaurant service can be slow.

• Amenities: IHG lists an indoor heated pool, 24-hour gym and Bennigan’s restaurant; confirm pool availability before booking.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; breakfast usually costs extra, pets incur nightly fees, and shuttle details conflict.
