#6 of 9 hotels in Daytona Beach Shores by Axel's take. Daytona Beach Shores is #5 of 6 places to stay in Daytona Beach. The best hotels in Daytona Beach Shores, ranked · Where to stay in Daytona Beach

Axel's take: 7.4/10

Worth considering for beachfront space, but don't book it for the old amenities. A simple 2-star beachfront lodge with motel-style rooms and kitchen suites, scored for what it is.

Sun Viking Lodge is a simple 2-star beachfront property whose strongest assets are beach access and roomy kitchen-equipped accommodations. We'd consider it for a budget-minded beach break rather than a resort experience. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise friendly staff, ocean views and rooms that are dated but comfortable; recent Expedia reviews also describe clean rooms and enjoyable pools.

The catch is inconsistent upkeep and an amenities list that needs checking. Management acknowledged hurricane recovery under new ownership in February 2026, and later guests still report maintenance problems. The waterslide is gone; guests also report missing activities and intermittent pool, hot-tub and café closures, although September guests describe working pools and hot tubs. Confirm facilities directly before booking. We'd skip it if dependable children's entertainment or consistently polished rooms matter more than being on the sand.

  • Best for: Budget-minded beachgoers; Families wanting a kitchen; Travelers prioritizing space over polish

  • Watch out for: Waterslide no longer available; Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Confirm advertised facilities before booking

  • Location: Direct beach access in Daytona Beach Shores, with several restaurants within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Kitchen rooms and spacious suites are useful; not all rooms face the ocean, and the two-story building lacks elevators.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recurring complaints about odors and missed cleaning make consistency a concern.

  • Service: Friendly front-desk staff earn repeated praise; towel replacement and complaint handling receive mixed reports.

  • Amenities: Indoor and outdoor pools remain draws; the slide is gone, and other advertised amenities have had availability problems.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and damage deposit; self-parking is included.
