#3 of 5 hotels in Downtown & Main Street by Axel's take. Downtown & Main Street is #2 of 5 places to stay in Columbia, South Carolina. The best hotels in Downtown & Main Street, ranked · Where to stay in Columbia, South Carolina

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong downtown base with welcoming staff, though parking renovations complicate arrival. a full-service, upper-midrange downtown business hotel, scored for what it is.

Marriott Columbia is a full-service, upper-midrange business hotel whose strongest assets are its downtown location and people. It's a strong pick for Main Street restaurants, Soda City Market and downtown meetings. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds, while the restaurant and lobby bar make staying in convenient. We'd choose it for a practical city stay rather than a luxury escape.

The main catch is parking: Marriott currently confirms garage renovations and requires guests to stop at reception for access. Recent guests also describe an uninviting garage and occasional room-maintenance shortcomings. Parking and breakfast cost extra, and complimentary in-room Wi-Fi has booking conditions. We'd skip it if effortless parking, freshly finished rooms or an all-inclusive setup matter most.

  • Best for: downtown business travelers; Main Street dining and Soda City weekends; travelers who prioritize friendly service

  • Watch out for: parking-garage renovations and awkward access; occasional room-maintenance shortcomings; parking, breakfast and possible Wi-Fi charges

  • Location: Walkable downtown setting near Main Street dining, Soda City Market and the Columbia Museum of Art.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise; some guests report maintenance needs, so expect solid rather than pristine.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with recent guests across several sites praising clean rooms.

  • Service: A standout: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews repeatedly recognize warm, helpful staff.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, lobby bar, gym and qualifying-guest lounge; booking sites also list an indoor pool.

  • Fees and surprises: Garage renovations are ongoing; parking and breakfast are extra, and free in-room Wi-Fi requires qualifying direct member bookings.
