Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong downtown base, with parking hassles and recent maintenance caveats. a comfortable 3-star chain hotel in Columbia’s walkable Vista district, scored for what it is.

This 3-star Hyatt Place is a strong pick for travelers who want downtown convenience without luxury-hotel fuss. Restaurants, the convention center and Colonial Life Arena are within walking distance, with USC nearby. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, roomy accommodations and breakfast. Sofa beds, an indoor saltwater pool and a gym make it practical for families as well as business trips.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: parking costs extra, the on-site lot can fill, and overflow-garage access has frustrated several guests. More importantly, Expedia reviews from August and October 2026 report one elevator out of service; confirm repairs if stairs are not an option. Cleanliness feedback is predominantly positive, but several recent housekeeping misses deserve attention. We'd skip it if effortless parking or consistently meticulous upkeep matters more than location.

• Best for: USC visiting families; convention and concert trips; travelers exploring downtown on foot

• Watch out for: Paid parking and overflow-garage complications; Recent reports of one elevator out of service; Occasional housekeeping lapses

• Location: Walkable Vista setting near restaurants, the convention center and Colonial Life Arena; USC is nearby.

• Rooms: Spacious layouts with sofa beds; comfort earns praise, though some guests note wear and maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, but June and October 2026 reviews describe missed bathroom or room cleaning.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, with occasional complaints about problem handling.

• Amenities: Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, indoor saltwater pool, gym and a lobby bar.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and valet cost extra; overflow parking may require garage validation, and pets incur a fee.
