#8 of 9 hotels in The Vista by Axel's take. The Vista is #1 of 5 places to stay in Columbia, South Carolina. The best hotels in The Vista, ranked · Where to stay in Columbia, South Carolina

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A convenient downtown base, but renovation disruption makes it a conditional pick. a full-service mid-range hotel in downtown Columbia’s Vista district, scored for what it is.

Hilton Columbia Center is a full-service mid-range hotel whose strongest asset is its Vista location, close to restaurants, the convention center and Colonial Life Arena. It’s a good pick for event-goers who prioritize walking over driving. Expedia and Booking.com guests regularly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff, while the outdoor pool and on-site Ruth’s Chris add useful extras.

The catch is renovation disruption: guests on several sites report lobby construction, awkward entrances and temporary check-in arrangements during summer 2026; completion remains unconfirmed. Recent feedback also includes worn bathrooms, air-conditioning problems and missed housekeeping, although overall ratings remain positive. Parking and breakfast cost extra. We’d skip it for a special occasion or a fuss-free stay unless the hotel confirms which work and facilities will affect your dates.

  • Best for: Convention attendees; Arena event-goers; Travelers exploring the Vista on foot

  • Watch out for: Lobby renovation; completion unconfirmed; Bathroom wear and occasional cooling problems; Parking and breakfast cost extra

  • Location: Walkable Vista setting near restaurants, the convention center and Colonial Life Arena.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise; some recent guests report worn bathrooms and unreliable air-conditioning.

  • Cleanliness: Generally strong feedback, with some recent housekeeping lapses rather than a consistent cleanliness problem.

  • Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, but follow-through and check-in communication can be uneven.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, fitness center, Ruth’s Chris, room service and free Wi-Fi; no airport shuttle.

  • Fees and surprises: Paid garage or valet parking and paid breakfast; summer 2026 guests report disruptive lobby construction.
