Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong downtown base with historic character, but housekeeping can be inconsistent. a historic 4-star full-service hotel in downtown Cincinnati, scored for what it is.

This historic 4-star is a strong pick for a Cincinnati weekend, especially if you're heading to a Reds game or exploring downtown on foot. Its landmark setting gives it character, while comfortable beds and generally well-kept rooms deliver the essentials. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the location and helpful staff; recent Tripadvisor reviews also single out warm welcomes and efficient valet service.

The main reservation is housekeeping: several Tripadvisor guests describe missed cleans and incomplete servicing, including during longer stays, although cleanliness ratings elsewhere remain strong. Paid valet parking and breakfast add to the bill, and there's no pool. We'd choose it for a short business or sports trip, but look elsewhere if meticulous daily housekeeping or family leisure facilities are priorities.

• Best for: Reds and Bengals weekends; Walkable downtown breaks; Short business trips

• Watch out for: Reports of missed housekeeping; Paid valet parking; No swimming pool

• Location: Walkable to the ballpark, riverfront and downtown attractions, with streetcar stops nearby.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally well-kept rooms; Marriott advertises redesigned interiors without specifying a renovation date.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, tempered by repeated Tripadvisor reports of incomplete or missed housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly front-desk and valet teams earn frequent praise; housekeeping follow-through is less consistent.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, fitness center and qualifying-access club lounge; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking and breakfast cost extra; complimentary in-room Wi-Fi is guaranteed for Bonvoy members booking direct.
