#4 of 5 hotels in Uptown & Clifton by Axel's take. Uptown & Clifton is #4 of 5 places to stay in Cincinnati. The best hotels in Uptown & Clifton, ranked · Where to stay in Cincinnati

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong university-area base, with helpful staff and refreshed rooms A recently refreshed, no-frills hotel by the university and medical district, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills Hampton that delivers well on the basics, especially for university visits and hospital stays. Hilton now labels it recently renovated, and 2026 Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise comfortable rooms, cleanliness and unusually welcoming staff. Free hot breakfast adds practical value, while the indoor pool and gym give families more than just a place to sleep. We'd pick it for an easy Uptown base rather than a hotel-centered getaway.

The main compromises are paid parking and being outside downtown: this isn't the choice for walking to riverfront attractions. Renovation-related pool and gym closures drew complaints in late 2025 and early 2026, although later guests describe refreshed spaces and pool use. Confirm availability if swimming is essential. We'd skip it if you want full-service dining or downtown convenience.

  • Best for: University visitors; Hospital-area stays; Families visiting the zoo

  • Watch out for: Paid on-site parking; Not a downtown walking base; Confirm pool availability if essential

  • Location: On Short Vine Street near UC, hospitals and the zoo; downtown requires transportation.

  • Rooms: Recent guests describe refreshed, comfortable rooms with good beds and useful space.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites; isolated housekeeping failures do not dominate recent reviews.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the clearest recurring strength.

  • Amenities: Free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi, indoor pool, fitness center and a snack shop.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking costs extra; earlier renovation closures warrant checking if pool access matters.
