8.7/10
A strong downtown luxury pick, with handsome interiors and a few service inconsistencies.
Fairmont Breakers is a restored historic luxury hotel in downtown Long Beach, not a beachfront resort. It's a strong pick for a polished city break: Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the clean interiors, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. The spa, rooftop cocktails and Sky Room dining give it appeal beyond somewhere to sleep, while the convention center and downtown restaurants are conveniently close.
The compromises matter at this level. Entry rooms can feel compact, and some city-facing rooms have underwhelming views; choose the category carefully rather than assuming every room delivers coastal scenery. Although service feedback is overwhelmingly positive on Expedia, Tripadvisor and Reddit describe some slow dining and poorly coordinated requests. Paid valet-only parking and an urban-experience fee also deserve attention. We'd choose it for a couples' getaway or upscale business stay, but skip it for direct beach access or sprawling resort grounds.

Best for: couples' city getaways; upscale convention stays; spa and dining weekends
Watch out for: compact entry rooms and variable views; occasional dining and service delays; urban-experience fee and paid valet-only parking
Location: Downtown Long Beach near restaurants and the convention center; not directly on the beach.
Rooms: Fresh contemporary interiors and marble bathrooms; entry kings start at a compact 289 square feet.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across the major booking sites, with isolated exceptions.
Service: Warm staff earn extensive praise, though dining and request handling are not uniformly seamless.
Amenities: Third-floor terrace pool, full-service spa, two-level gym, restaurants and rooftop bar.
Fees and surprises: An urban-experience fee applies; on-site parking is paid valet only, and pets incur an additional fee.
