The St. Regis Chicago is a modern five-star hotel whose spacious rooms, river-and-lake views and extensive wellness facilities make a strong case for a splurge. Expedia guests give cleanliness and condition particularly high marks, while Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise room comfort. With Miru and Tre Dita downstairs, it's a strong pick for travelers who want dining and downtime built into their city break.

The reservation is service consistency, not the building. Many guests describe thoughtful hospitality, but recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly report delayed room readiness, missed housekeeping and unreliable suite-butler follow-through. Those are meaningful shortcomings at this level. We'd choose it for the rooms, views and facilities; we'd look elsewhere if seamless, anticipatory service is the main reason you're paying for luxury.
