Axel's take: 8.8/10

Historic character, standout bedding and a prime Loop location outweigh the extra fees. a historic 4-star boutique hotel in the Loop, scored for what it is.

Staypineapple is a historic 4-star boutique hotel that makes a strong base for exploring Chicago without a car. Its landmark architecture and playful pineapple touches give it personality, but the dependable strengths are practical: comfortable bedding, helpful staff and an easy walk to Millennium Park, theaters and transit. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcome and room cleanliness, while Booking.com’s ratings reinforce the strength of the location.

The trade-offs are compact entry-level rooms and a mandatory daily amenity fee, even if you barely use the bundled extras. Valet parking costs extra too. Recent guests also report housekeeping that is not automatically daily, so confirm service expectations on arrival. We’d choose it for a characterful sightseeing stay; skip it if generous room space and daily servicing are priorities.

• Best for: car-free sightseeing trips; couples who like historic hotels; travelers bringing dogs

• Watch out for: mandatory daily amenity fee; compact entry-level rooms; housekeeping not automatically daily

• Location: Excellent Loop base for Millennium Park, theaters, shopping and nearby train stations.

• Rooms: Much-praised bedding and distinctive decor; entry-level queen rooms are compact.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across major sites; isolated misses do not dominate the picture.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are a consistent highlight in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Mariela restaurant, fitness center, loaner bikes, afternoon cookies and coffee; dogs welcome.

• Fees and surprises: Daily amenity fee applies; valet parking and pets incur additional charges.
