Axel's take: 9.1/10

A standout Residence Inn with generous rooms and an especially useful downtown location. An upscale extended-stay all-suite hotel just off the Magnificent Mile, scored for what it is.

This is an upscale extended-stay Marriott, not the five-star Conrad still appearing in some listings. Converted from the former Conrad in 2024, it delivers more polish than the Residence Inn name usually promises. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise spacious, modern suites, comfortable beds, helpful staff and particularly strong cleanliness. Kitchenettes and included hot breakfast make it a strong pick for families and longer city stays.

The compromises are mostly practical: breakfast can get hectic, with some guests reporting slow replenishment, and valet parking is expensive. Check-in and breakfast are on the 20th floor, rather than at street level. The rooftop adds appeal, but Marriott says access is weather-dependent. We'd choose it for space and convenience, not for five-star pampering; there's no room service.

• Best for: Families wanting kitchen facilities; Longer downtown stays; Sightseers exploring without a car

• Watch out for: Busy breakfast periods; Expensive valet parking; Weather-dependent rooftop access

• Location: Just off Michigan Avenue, with restaurants, shopping and Red Line stations within walking distance.

• Rooms: Modern, generously sized suites with kitchenettes; guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive consistent praise across multiple sites.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, fitness center, guest laundry, Italian restaurant and rooftop bar; no room service.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking costs extra; pets incur both nightly and nonrefundable cleaning fees.
