Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong Loop base for location and helpful staff, rather than four-star polish. A practical 4-star business hotel in Chicago’s Loop, scored for what it is.

Central Loop Hotel is a practical 4-star business hotel whose strongest selling point is its downtown location, not luxury. We'd pick it for sightseeing or a short work trip: the Art Institute, Millennium Park and several train stations are within walking distance. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Free purified-water stations, coffee, Wi-Fi and the attached Elephant & Castle pub add useful everyday convenience.

The trade-off is room quality rather than location. Across recent reviews, smaller rooms and dated bathrooms recur; some rooms also feel dark, and occasional maintenance or housekeeping misses temper the otherwise positive picture. Choose your room category carefully for a longer stay. Breakfast and nearby garage parking cost extra, and Expedia lists a nightly incidental deposit. We'd skip it if spacious rooms and polished four-star interiors are priorities.

• Best for: Sightseers exploring on foot; Short business trips in the Loop; Train travelers

• Watch out for: Compact rooms, some with limited daylight; Dated interiors and bathrooms; Paid breakfast, offsite parking and incidental deposit

• Location: Excellent Loop access to museums, parks, offices and multiple train lines.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but size, daylight and bathroom condition vary; larger categories suit longer stays.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised across recent sources, with occasional housekeeping misses rather than a dominant cleanliness problem.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, coffee and purified water, plus a 24-hour gym and attached Elephant & Castle pub.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast generally costs extra; parking is in a nearby garage, and Expedia lists a per-night incidental deposit.
