Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical sightseeing base with helpful staff, dated rooms and significant street noise. a budget-friendly, no-frills hotel in central River North, scored for what it is.

Best Western River North is a no-frills downtown hotel whose strongest selling point is location, not polish. We'd consider it for a sightseeing trip: restaurants, the Riverwalk and Red Line are handy, and Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and generally clean rooms. The dated interiors are easier to accept when you want a practical base rather than somewhere to linger.

The compromises matter. Tripadvisor guests repeatedly flag street noise, while recent Trip.com reviews describe pool and rooftop renovation closures. Expedia now lists the swimming pool as unavailable November 1–30, 2026; confirm the pool, rooftop deck and gym directly before booking around them. Parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd skip it for light sleepers or families whose trip depends on swimming.

• Best for: budget-conscious city explorers; short sightseeing stays; travelers prioritizing restaurants and transit

• Watch out for: persistent street noise; pool closure listed November 1–30, 2026; parking and breakfast charged separately

• Location: Central River North, with restaurants nearby and Grand Red Line station about four minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Functional but dated; standard rooms can feel tight for four, while suites offer more space.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent reports, though not uniformly spotless; Expedia's cleanliness rating is 7.8/10.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com.

• Amenities: Restaurant, indoor pool, rooftop deck and gym are advertised; renovation reports make confirming facility access important.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and limited on-site parking cost extra; Expedia lists a November 1–30, 2026 pool closure, subject to change.
