Hotels in Cancuna basic 3-star across from Playa Centro on Isla Mujeres
7.3/10
A handy beach base, provided location matters more than polished rooms.
Posada del Mar is a basic 3-star on Isla Mujeres, not mainland Cancún, and we'd pick it for convenience rather than comfort alone. Playa Centro is across the road, with the ferry, restaurants and Playa Norte an easy walk away. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location, helpful staff and effective air-conditioning; the pool and sea-facing restaurant add appeal for a simple island stay.
The compromise is an aging property with uneven upkeep. Tripadvisor guests repeatedly mention hard beds, thin walls and tired bathrooms, while cleanliness earns respectable rather than outstanding marks across booking sites. The hotel confirms that Classic rooms occupy its original building; we'd ask about newer-building options before booking. There's no elevator. It's a sensible choice for budget-minded beachgoers, but we'd skip it for a quiet, polished getaway.
Axel's opinion, from the hotel's website and recent guest reviews, scored for what the hotel is. Sources: Hotel website · Expedia · Tripadvisor · Booking.com · Reddit. Reviewed Oct 15, 2026.

A handy beach base, provided location matters more than polished rooms. a basic 3-star across from Playa Centro on Isla Mujeres, scored for what it is.
Best for: budget-minded beachgoers; car-free island breaks; travelers prioritizing a central location
Watch out for: hard beds and thin walls; uneven room condition; no elevator
Location: Across the road from public Playa Centro; walkable to the ferry, dining and Playa Norte.
Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms with mini-fridges; Classic rooms are in the original building, and condition varies.
Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recurring housekeeping complaints keep this from being a standout.
Service: Generally friendly and helpful, though reception gets mixed feedback on Tripadvisor.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, restaurant and bar; don't expect dependable in-room Wi-Fi.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and local tax are extra; confirm safe charges because the official site and Expedia disagree.
