Axel's take: 7.1/10

Good Zamalek value if space matters more than polish or sleeping late. a simple independent 3-star in Zamalek, scored for what it is.

New Star is a simple independent 3-star whose strongest selling points are its Zamalek location and generously sized rooms. We'd consider it a good budget base for exploring the neighborhood, with restaurants, shops and Safaa Hegazy metro nearby. Tripadvisor and Agoda guests repeatedly praise the space and helpful staff; Booking.com's overall ratings also favor location and service over facilities.

The trade-off is consistency rather than a lack of room. Guests describe dated finishes, and cleanliness feedback ranges from spotless to disappointing. The most convincing recurring warning is the school opposite: Tripadvisor and Trip.com reviewers report early-morning noise, especially in school-facing rooms. Breakfast earns mixed reactions, from ample to repetitive. It's a sensible choice for budget-conscious early risers, but we'd skip it for a polished stay or dependable lie-ins.

• Best for: budget-conscious Zamalek visitors; travelers who prioritize spacious rooms; early risers exploring by metro

• Watch out for: early-morning school noise; dated finishes and uneven housekeeping; mixed breakfast feedback

• Location: Walkable Zamalek setting near restaurants, shops and Safaa Hegazy metro.

• Rooms: Spacious rooms and family suites; condition and comfort vary.

• Cleanliness: Many guests praise clean rooms, but housekeeping complaints recur across sites.

• Service: Helpful staff are a frequent positive, though problem handling receives some criticism.

• Amenities: Restaurant, breakfast, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, elevator and 24-hour reception.

• Fees and surprises: Only registered guests may enter rooms; confirm booked occupancy and any extra-person charges.
