Axel's take: 6.8/10

A convenient downtown base, but room reliability and limited Wi-Fi hold it back. a basic independent 3-star in downtown Cairo, scored for what it is.

Happy City is a basic independent 3-star whose strongest selling point is downtown Cairo: Mohamed Naguib metro is steps away, and Tahrir Square is walkable. We'd consider it for a sightseeing-heavy stay rather than time spent relaxing in the room. Late-2025 guests on Tripadvisor and Booking.com's partner listings praise clean rooms and helpful staff; breakfast and the rooftop bar add appeal.

The trade-off is consistency. Booking.com's overall verdict is good, while Tripadvisor and Hotels.com are less enthusiastic. A July 2025 guest reported faulty air-conditioning and a shower, although other recent guests were satisfied. Wi-Fi is the clearer weakness: listings restrict it to public areas, and guests confirm no room access. We'd skip it for remote work or dependable, fuss-free comfort. Recent detailed reviews are relatively sparse.

• Best for: budget-minded downtown sightseeing; travelers using the metro; short stays with basic expectations

• Watch out for: Wi-Fi limited to public areas; mixed reports on room maintenance; some bookings restricted to Egyptian guests

• Location: Steps from Mohamed Naguib metro, with Tahrir Square within walking distance.

• Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; recent praise is tempered by a report of faulty cooling and shower facilities.

• Cleanliness: Late-2025 guests praise clean rooms, but cleanliness ratings differ substantially between booking sites.

• Service: Recent Tripadvisor and Booking.com-linked reviews praise friendly, helpful staff; older feedback is more mixed.

• Amenities: Breakfast, restaurants and a rooftop bar; free Wi-Fi is advertised in public areas, not bedrooms.

• Fees and surprises: Check nationality restrictions and included taxes before booking; no on-site parking is listed.
