Strong service and Nile views, but smoke and music can undermine the luxury. a five-star Nile-side hotel with a casino and lively dining scene, scored for what it is.

Fairmont Nile City is a five-star Nile-side hotel that makes a strong case for staying in: rooftop swimming, a substantial spa and several restaurants complement comfortable rooms. We'd pick it for attentive service and a full Nile-view room rather than a walk-everywhere sightseeing base. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and dining; Fairmont Gold draws particularly enthusiastic feedback for its lounge and personalized attention.

The main compromises are smoke and noise. Fairmont explicitly offers smoking rooms, and some recent guests report cigarette smells even in requested non-smoking accommodation, plus restaurant music reaching bedrooms. That's a meaningful drawback at this level. Confirm your room's smoking status and request a quieter location. We'd skip it if smoke sensitivity, early nights or walking to downtown sights are priorities.

• Best for: couples wanting Nile views; business travelers seeking full-service comfort; travelers considering Fairmont Gold

• Watch out for: smoke odors reported in non-smoking accommodation; restaurant music can reach rooms; not a walk-everywhere sightseeing base

• Location: Nile-side in the Nile City Towers complex; expect transport for downtown sightseeing.

• Rooms: Standard rooms start at 33 square meters; city, partial-Nile and full-Nile views are distinct categories.

• Cleanliness: Strong across recent guest feedback, although smoke odor is a separate recurring concern.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff are a consistent strength; Gold lounge service stands out.

• Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, spa, 24-hour gym, multiple restaurants and a casino.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and airport transfers cost extra; Booking.com retains an undated secondary-area works notice, so confirm its status.
