Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong luxury pick for its gardens, spacious rooms and Recoleta setting. a five-star palace-and-modern-wing hotel in Recoleta, scored for what it is.

Palacio Duhau is a five-star hotel combining a historic palace with a contemporary accommodation wing across landscaped gardens. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want a polished Recoleta base with character beyond the bedroom. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, exceptionally clean rooms, helpful staff and the courtyard. The indoor lap pool, spa and art gallery give it substance beyond its handsome public spaces.

The main caveat is that palace atmosphere does not mean every room is historic: book the Palace category if that matters. Service earns abundant praise, but several guests describe slow restaurant or bar attention, and recent Expedia and Reddit reviews flag a small gym. We’d choose it for a leisurely, garden-centered city stay; skip it if a substantial fitness center or consistently brisk dining service is essential.

• Best for: couples seeking classic luxury; Recoleta sightseeing; travelers who value gardens and a lap pool

• Watch out for: palace and modern-wing rooms differ; occasional slow dining service; small gym

• Location: Avenida Alvear in Recoleta; guests consistently praise the walkable setting.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; select a Palace category specifically for historic surroundings.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength, with repeated recent praise for immaculate rooms and public areas.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff overall; restaurant and bar responsiveness is less consistent.

• Amenities: Landscaped gardens, indoor lap pool, spa, art gallery and restaurants; gym size disappoints some guests.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra depending on the booking; valet parking, airport transfers and pets carry additional charges.
