Axel's take: 7.2/10

Choose it for the Obelisk location, not four-star polish. an older, straightforward 4-star opposite the Obelisk, scored for what it is.

Globales República is an older, straightforward 4-star whose biggest selling point is its position opposite the Obelisk. It's a good pick for a sightseeing-heavy city break, with Corrientes theatres and subway connections close by. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently highlight the location, while many praise helpful staff and clean, functional rooms. We'd consider a front-facing Deluxe room for the view; the hotel's Standard rooms face inward.

The compromise is comfort rather than convenience. Small rooms and dated fittings recur across guest accounts, with some complaints about sound insulation and uneven maintenance. Breakfast draws mixed reactions, so check whether your booking includes it. We'd skip it for a quiet, spacious retreat or a polished four-star experience. Confirm pool and sauna availability directly: the official website advertises them, but major booking listings do not.

• Best for: first-time Buenos Aires sightseers; theatre-going city breaks; travelers prioritizing location over polish

• Watch out for: small rooms and dated fittings; sound insulation complaints; pool and sauna availability unclear

• Location: Opposite the Obelisk, close to Corrientes theatres and several subway connections.

• Rooms: Standard rooms face inward; Deluxe rooms face the front, with Obelisk views.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback; dated condition is a more consistent concern than housekeeping.

• Service: Frequently praised as friendly and helpful, though some guests report poor complaint handling.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar and Wi-Fi; confirm the officially advertised indoor pool and sauna before booking.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; no on-site parking is listed.
