Axel's take: 7.1/10

Choose Claridge for its central location and old-world character, not five-star polish. A historic downtown hotel with five-star billing but aging rooms, scored for what it is.

Claridge is a historic downtown hotel whose five-star billing sets expectations its aging rooms don't consistently meet. We'd consider it for a sightseeing trip: Florida Street and Galerías Pacífico are close, the English-style bar adds character, and helpful staff earn praise across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor. Comfortable beds and generally positive cleanliness feedback help make it a practical base rather than simply a faded showpiece.

The recurring drawback is condition: recent guests describe tired furnishings, dated bathrooms and maintenance that falls short of luxury standards. Some also report sound carrying between connecting rooms. The outdoor pool is a summer bonus, but the hotel lists it as open only December through March. It's a reasonable choice for travelers who prioritize location and traditional atmosphere; we'd skip it if modern rooms and consistently polished five-star facilities are essential.

• Best for: Sightseers exploring downtown; Travelers who enjoy traditional hotels; Guests prioritizing location over luxury

• Watch out for: Worn rooms and dated bathrooms; Sound transfer in some connecting rooms; Outdoor pool open December–March only

• Location: Central Microcentro base near Florida Street and Galerías Pacífico; location is a consistent guest favorite.

• Rooms: Beds often earn praise, but worn furnishings, dated bathrooms and uneven maintenance recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive overall, including Booking.com's 8.2 cleanliness score, despite some negative reports.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength, though individual service experiences vary.

• Amenities: English-style bar, restaurant, gym and seasonal outdoor pool; don't expect year-round swimming.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking costs extra, is limited to small cars and cannot be reserved.
