Axel's take: 9.2/10

Carles excels at personal service and comfortable city stays, not big-hotel facilities. a small, independent 4-star boutique hotel on the Retiro–Recoleta edge, scored for what it is.

Carles is a 35-room, independent 4-star boutique hotel on the Retiro–Recoleta edge, and we'd strongly recommend it for a Buenos Aires city break. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; recent accounts describe practical help with excursions, luggage and early departures. The walkable setting near Plaza San Martín puts restaurants and transport within easy reach. Breakfast is another reliable strength.

The trade-off is scale: this is a comfortable base, not a hotel built around extensive facilities. Guests mention a small breakfast room and limited communal space, and some find breakfast repetitive over longer stays. Despite bar and restaurant listings on booking sites, recent guests report no conventional restaurant or proper bar. We'd skip it if leisurely hotel dining and spacious lounges are priorities.

• Best for: couples exploring Buenos Aires; first-time visitors who appreciate helpful staff; independent travelers seeking boutique comfort

• Watch out for: limited communal space; small breakfast room; bar and restaurant listings overpromise

• Location: Walkable Retiro–Recoleta setting near Plaza San Martín, restaurants and public transport.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally quiet, well-sized rooms; selected suites have balconies.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise across sites, including recent guest accounts.

• Service: The standout: friendly, proactive staff repeatedly help with logistics and special requests.

• Amenities: Breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a gym and rooftop terrace; dining facilities are more limited than listings suggest.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; no on-site parking, and early check-in or late checkout may incur fees.
