#7 of 9 hotels in San Telmo by Axel's take. San Telmo is #4 of 9 places to stay in Buenos Aires. The best hotels in San Telmo, ranked · Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A good-value San Telmo base, with a pool but decidedly basic rooms. A budget hostel with private rooms and a small pool in San Telmo, scored for what it is.

Circus is a budget hostel with dorms and private rooms, not a conventional hotel. We'd pick it for exploring San Telmo without spending much: the market and Plaza Dorrego are nearby, and the small outdoor pool is a welcome extra. Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly praise the location, cleanliness and helpful staff. En-suite bathrooms, including in dorms, make the setup more convenient than some basic hostels.

The trade-off is room comfort rather than location. Furnishings are simple, some guests find rooms dated or cramped, and recent Hostelworld feedback is less consistent on cleanliness and social atmosphere. Don't book expecting dependable organized activities or hotel-style polish. Breakfast costs extra, and dorm guests should check towel charges. We'd skip it if spacious rooms or a reliably lively backpacker scene are priorities.

  • Best for: Budget travelers exploring San Telmo; Backpackers wanting en-suite dorms; Couples happy with basic private rooms

  • Watch out for: Basic rooms with uneven recent feedback; Social atmosphere can be quiet; Breakfast and dorm towels cost extra

  • Location: Close to San Telmo Market and Plaza Dorrego; location is a consistent strength in guest reviews.

  • Rooms: Dorms and private rooms have en-suite bathrooms; furnishings are basic, with some reports of cramped or dated rooms.

  • Cleanliness: Broadly positive on Booking.com and Expedia, but recent Hostelworld feedback is more uneven.

  • Service: Helpful staff receive frequent praise, though individual experiences vary.

  • Amenities: Small outdoor pool, communal spaces, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; confirm kitchen access because listings conflict.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast is extra; a May 2026 dorm guest reported cash-only towel rental, so confirm inclusions before arrival.
