Axel's take: 8.5/10

A personable Palermo base with a lovely garden, but rooms could use attention. a small mid-range boutique hotel in a historic Palermo Soho house, scored for what it is.

BENS L’Hotel Palermo is a small mid-range boutique hotel in a historic house, one block from Plaza Serrano. It’s a strong pick for exploring Palermo Soho’s restaurants and shops without staying in a large, impersonal hotel. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff and garden; recent Expedia reviews also highlight comfortable beds, clean rooms and a generous breakfast. We’d choose it for neighborhood character and personal service rather than polished interiors.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep. Recent guests describe some tired finishes, compact standard rooms and occasional damp smells. Bathtub showers also draw complaints about awkward access or slippery surfaces, so travelers with mobility needs should confirm the exact bathroom setup before booking. The small seasonal pool is a bonus, not the main reason to stay. Skip it if you want uniformly modern rooms and dependable accessibility.

• Best for: couples who prefer small boutique hotels; restaurant and shopping-focused stays; solo travelers seeking helpful staff

• Watch out for: uneven room maintenance; compact standard rooms; awkward bathtub access

• Location: One block from Plaza Serrano, surrounded by restaurants and boutiques; roughly 15 minutes on foot to the subway.

• Rooms: Individually styled rooms; comfortable beds earn praise, but some standard rooms are small and finishes show wear.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive feedback, although some recent guests report damp smells.

• Service: Warm, helpful reception staff are the most consistent strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Garden, breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a small seasonal outdoor pool; confirm pool availability if essential.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers and late checkout cost extra; confirm bathroom accessibility rather than relying on the amenity listing.
