Axel's take: 8.2/10

A practical Budapest base with helpful staff, though rooms lack four-star polish. a straightforward 4-star business hotel near Nyugati station, scored for what it is.

NH Budapest City is a straightforward 4-star business hotel: a strong pick for convenient sightseeing rather than a stylish hotel stay. Its side-street location puts Nyugati station, trams and the Danube within easy reach. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming reception team, comfortable rooms and breakfast. The gym and sauna are useful extras, and some rooms have balconies.

The trade-off is polish. Dated furnishings crop up across review sites, and several 2025–2026 guests report inconsistent housekeeping or difficulty getting fresh towels, despite broadly positive cleanliness ratings. We'd confirm the cleaning arrangements at check-in rather than assume daily servicing. Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved. Choose it for transport links and friendly service; skip it if fresh interiors and consistently attentive four-star housekeeping are priorities.

  • Best for: sightseers using public transport; business travelers; couples wanting a quieter base

  • Watch out for: dated furnishings in some rooms; inconsistent housekeeping and towel replacement; paid parking cannot be reserved

  • Location: Convenient side street near Nyugati station, trams, local restaurants and the Danube.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable and reasonably spacious; furnishings can feel tired, with balconies in selected rooms.

  • Cleanliness: Positive overall, but repeated recent housekeeping and towel-replacement complaints warrant checking arrangements.

  • Service: Reception staff attract consistent praise; follow-through on requests is less dependable.

  • Amenities: Gym, sauna, free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet and bar; more business-hotel practical than resort-style.

  • Fees and surprises: Garage parking and pets carry extra charges; check whether breakfast is included in your booking.
