Axel's take: 9.2/10

Grand architecture and exceptional service, with rooms that could use a refresh. a five-star Art Nouveau landmark overlooking the Danube, scored for what it is.

This five-star Art Nouveau landmark at the Pest end of the Chain Bridge is a strong pick for a special Budapest stay. The architecture and riverfront setting are major draws, but service makes the strongest case: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise thoughtful staff, capable concierges and meticulous housekeeping. The indoor pool, spa, Kollázs brasserie and MÚZSA bar round out a convincing luxury offering.

The main reservation is the bedrooms. Although comfort scores remain excellent, guests across several sites describe décor and carpets that feel dated beside newer luxury rivals. Choose your room category carefully: a Danube view is not standard. Breakfast and parking can also cost extra. We'd choose it for gracious service and historic character, but look elsewhere if contemporary rooms are your priority.

  • Best for: couples celebrating a special occasion; architecture lovers; first-time Budapest visitors seeking luxury

  • Watch out for: some dated bedroom décor and carpets; river views depend on room category; breakfast and parking may cost extra

  • Location: Central Pest riverfront, directly opposite the Chain Bridge and convenient for walking to major sights.

  • Rooms: Strong comfort ratings; some recent guests flag aging interiors, so choose category and view carefully.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently excellent scores, with recent guests praising spotless rooms and attentive housekeeping.

  • Service: Personal attention and concierge help are recurring strengths across recent reviews.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, spa, fitness centre, Kollázs brasserie and MÚZSA cocktail bar.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusions; parking and airport transfers carry additional charges.
