Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical event base with welcoming staff, but uneven upkeep and limited dining. an upscale 4-star convention hotel in Birmingham’s Uptown district, scored for what it is.

The Westin Birmingham is an upscale 4-star convention hotel we’d pick for convenience rather than a luxury getaway. Its BJCC connection, proximity to Protective Stadium and nearby restaurants make event weekends straightforward. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff and comfortable rooms, and overall cleanliness ratings remain strong despite some recent housekeeping lapses.

The trade-offs matter at this level: guests mention worn furnishings, and 2026 reviews describe renovation-related restaurant and club-lounge closures. An October report still flags the restaurant closure; Marriott currently lists a coffee shop, evening lobby bar and mobile dining instead of a full-service restaurant. Confirm arrangements before booking. Parking and breakfast cost extra, and there is no airport shuttle. It’s a good fit for convention-goers and concert trips; we’d skip it for a polished, full-service escape.

• Best for: BJCC convention attendees; Concert and stadium trips; Business travelers prioritizing location

• Watch out for: Reported renovation-related dining and lounge closures; Worn furnishings and occasional housekeeping lapses; Paid parking; no airport shuttle

• Location: Connected to the BJCC, with Protective Stadium and Uptown restaurants close by.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and reasonably spacious, but some guests report worn furniture.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, tempered by several recent bathroom and common-area complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool and gym; current dining listings emphasize coffee, an evening bar and mobile delivery.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, breakfast and pets incur charges; confirm restaurant and club-lounge availability before arrival.
