#4 of 9 hotels in Lakeshore & Wildwood by Axel's take. Lakeshore & Wildwood is #4 of 6 places to stay in Birmingham, Alabama. The best hotels in Lakeshore & Wildwood, ranked · Where to stay in Birmingham, Alabama

Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical budget stop, with comfortable beds but uneven consistency. a no-frills budget hotel near I-65 in Homewood, scored for what it is.

This no-frills budget hotel is now a Spark by Hilton, rather than the Country Inn & Suites still shown in older listings. We'd consider it for a short, car-based Birmingham visit: free parking, continental breakfast and convenient drives to UAB and Samford cover the essentials. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff, while Booking.com's overall feedback is also positive.

The refresh hasn't eliminated every rough edge. Guests still mention worn bathtubs, thin walls and occasional smoke smells; Tripadvisor reports also show that handling problems can be inconsistent. Breakfast is a simple bagel-led spread, not a substantial hot buffet. Don't book for the swimming pool: current listings say there isn't one, and Hilton doesn't advertise one. It's good for a straightforward overnight, less convincing for light sleepers or an amenity-focused family stay.

  • Best for: budget-conscious road trippers; short university or medical visits; travelers with a car

  • Watch out for: thin walls and occasional smoke smells; uneven problem handling; outdated pool listings

  • Location: Convenient for I-65 and university visits; better suited to driving than walking.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but some bathrooms retain worn fixtures and soundproofing is limited.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent booking-site feedback, with some contrary reports on Tripadvisor.

  • Service: Often described as friendly; responses to complaints are less consistently praised.

  • Amenities: Free continental breakfast, Wi-Fi and a gym; don't count on a swimming pool.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is free; pets incur a nonrefundable fee, and older Country Inn amenity lists are unreliable.
