Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong choice for UAB visits, with comfortable rooms but awkward parking. a practical 3-star hotel connected to UAB Hospital, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Courtyard makes the most sense when UAB is the reason for your trip. Its direct hospital skybridge is the standout convenience, backed by comfortable rooms and staff whom recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise. Cleanliness scores are strong across sites, and Marriott describes the rooms as recently updated. We'd pick it for hospital appointments, supporting family or university business rather than a hotel-centered getaway.

The main compromise is parking: it costs extra in an off-site hospital deck, and some Tripadvisor guests find the arrangements confusing or spaces difficult to find. Breakfast also costs extra unless included in your booking, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day. The Bistro and gym cover the basics, but we'd look elsewhere if easy parking and an included breakfast matter more than hospital access.

• Best for: UAB patients and visiting families; university and medical business; travelers prioritizing hospital access

• Watch out for: paid off-site parking; breakfast usually extra; every-other-day housekeeping

• Location: Direct skybridge to UAB Hospital; particularly convenient for medical and university visits.

• Rooms: Marriott describes updated rooms; guests commonly praise comfortable beds and good-sized rooms.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback on Expedia and Booking.com, rather than a recurring cleanliness concern.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a consistent strength in recent guest feedback.

• Amenities: Bistro, Starbucks coffee, fitness center and guest laundry; no hotel shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Off-site parking and breakfast cost extra; housekeeping is scheduled every other day.
