Axel's take: 6.8/10

Convenient for a short stop, but room upkeep and breakfast are inconsistent. a no-frills budget chain hotel near US-280 and I-459, scored for what it is.

This no-frills budget hotel now operates as Sleep Inn & Suites Birmingham Colonnade, rather than Comfort Inn. We'd consider it for a practical overnight stop around Grandview and the Colonnade, not a stay built around the hotel. Free parking, included breakfast and rooms with microwaves and refrigerators cover the basics. Expedia guests frequently praise friendly staff and clean rooms, and the location works well for nearby appointments, shopping and dining.

The catch is consistency. Recent Choice and Tripadvisor reviews also describe dirty rooms, odors and uneven maintenance, alongside positive stays. Breakfast repeatedly draws lukewarm feedback, and road noise can intrude. A security deposit is required at check-in. It's a reasonable option for travelers who prioritize convenience over polish; we'd skip it if dependable housekeeping or quiet sleep is your deciding factor.

• Best for: short stays near Grandview; budget-minded drivers; travelers needing a microwave and refrigerator

• Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and maintenance; basic, inconsistently stocked breakfast; road noise in some rooms

• Location: Convenient for the Colonnade, Grandview and US-280; better suited to drivers than downtown sightseeing.

• Rooms: Microwaves and refrigerators are standard; condition, mattress comfort and noise reports vary.

• Cleanliness: Many positive reports, but recent complaints across sites make housekeeping a meaningful concern.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise, though not every guest reports smooth problem handling.

• Amenities: Free parking, Wi-Fi and breakfast, plus a fitness center and guest laundry; breakfast is a weak spot.

• Fees and surprises: Security deposit required; pets incur charges and restrictions. Expedia also lists a restriction on local residents.
