Axel's take: 7.6/10

A strong Homewood location and friendly staff, tempered by tired rooms and renovations. a casual 3-star hotel in walkable downtown Homewood, scored for what it is.

This casual 3-star Aloft is a good pick if you want Homewood restaurants and shops outside the door rather than a downtown Birmingham address. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, comfortable beds and generally clean rooms. The lobby bar, billiards, indoor pool and gym give it more appeal than a basic overnight stop.

The rooms are the weak point: recent Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews describe worn furnishings, dim bathrooms and recurring plumbing or door problems. More importantly, October 2026 reporting says renovations are underway, with guest-room and building-system upgrades planned; confirm the work schedule and facility access before booking. Parking and pets cost extra. We'd choose it for a sociable, conveniently located Homewood stay, but skip it if polished rooms or a reliably quiet daytime retreat matter most.

• Best for: Travelers who want walkable dining; Short Homewood visits; Pet owners

• Watch out for: Renovations reported underway in October 2026; Worn rooms and bathroom maintenance issues; Parking and pet fees

• Location: Downtown Homewood restaurants and shops are walkable; this is not downtown Birmingham.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but wear, dim bathrooms and maintenance faults recur.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback, despite some less favorable Tripadvisor reports.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength; occasional delays are reported.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, gym, lobby bar, billiards and snack market; confirm access during renovations.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry fees; Marriott lists housekeeping every other day.
