Axel's take: 8.3/10

A comfortable sightseeing base with excellent breakfast, but summer cooling is a weakness. a large, Scandinavian-style 4-star near Potsdamer Platz, scored for what it is.

Scandic Berlin Potsdamer Platz is a large, Scandinavian-style 4-star that gets the city-break essentials right. We'd pick it for comfortable beds, easy U-Bahn access and a breakfast buffet that earns unusually consistent praise. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and HolidayCheck guests also regularly highlight friendly staff and clean, quiet rooms. It feels more like a practical business-and-family hotel than a boutique retreat, but delivers well in that role.

The biggest reservation is summer comfort: guests across several sites report warm rooms and underpowered cooling. Breakfast can get crowded, and housekeeping is on request rather than automatic. Despite the name, Potsdamer Platz itself is a short walk away. It's a strong choice for sightseeing and family trips; we'd skip it in hot weather if a reliably chilly bedroom is essential.

  • Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; families wanting practical comfort; breakfast enthusiasts

  • Watch out for: limited cooling in hot weather; busy breakfast periods; housekeeping must be requested

  • Location: U-Bahn access nearby; Potsdamer Platz is roughly a five-to-ten-minute walk away.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and generally quiet rooms; recurring complaints concern summer temperatures.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with occasional reports of missed cleaning details.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across recent guest reviews.

  • Amenities: Extensive breakfast buffet, upper-floor gym, bar, terrace and children's playroom.

  • Fees and surprises: Cashless hotel; parking and pets cost extra, and breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
