#2 of 9 hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt by Axel's take. Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt is #2 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong central Berlin base for space and independence, rather than full hotel service. A comfortable serviced-apartment house in central Berlin, scored for what it is.

Clipper is a comfortable serviced-apartment house in Mitte, and a strong pick if you want room to spread out without sacrificing sightseeing convenience. Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise the cleanliness, spacious accommodation and helpful staff; recent Tripadvisor reviews reinforce those strengths. With Unter den Linden transport nearby and major sights walkable, we'd choose it for an independent city break or longer work trip.

The trade-off is lighter service: reception closes each evening, and the hotel includes partial cleaning after every third night and full cleaning after the sixth—not daily housekeeping. Kitchenettes suit breakfast and reheating better than ambitious cooking. Several guests report warm rooms or ineffective cooling, so don't assume the catalog's air-conditioning claim guarantees summer comfort. We'd skip it if dependable cooling or round-the-clock hotel service is essential.

  • Best for: Independent sightseeing couples; Longer business stays; Travelers who prioritize apartment space

  • Watch out for: Limited reception hours; Housekeeping is not daily; Reported summer cooling problems

  • Location: Central Mitte, near Gendarmenmarkt and Unter den Linden transport; excellent for exploring on foot.

  • Rooms: Studios and apartments offer useful space; compact kitchenettes and reported cooling limitations are the main compromises.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Tripadvisor feedback.

  • Service: Staff generally earn strong praise; arrange check-in-box access for arrivals after reception closes.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, kitchenettes and complimentary self-service washing and drying; terraces depend on apartment category.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking, dogs and extra cleaning cost more; reserve garage space ahead. The property is cashless.
