Axel's take: 9.0/10

A polished Charlottenburg base with standout staff, comfortable rooms and real character. a historic luxury boutique hotel in Charlottenburg, scored for what it is.

Roomers Berlin Steinplatz is a historic luxury boutique hotel, not a standard mid-range chain stay. Formerly Hotel am Steinplatz, it combines characterful interiors with a quieter Charlottenburg setting near cafés, Ku’damm shopping and Zoologischer Garten transport links. We'd put it high on the list for couples: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, spotless rooms and genuinely helpful staff. Breakfast earns unusually enthusiastic feedback, while the rooftop sauna and gym add substance beyond the styling.

The main compromises are location and extras rather than the basics. This is a West Berlin base, so expect transit journeys to many Mitte sights. Breakfast and dining are expensive, and parking costs extra. We'd skip it if sightseeing entirely on foot or keeping incidental spending low matters more than boutique character and attentive service.

• Best for: couples seeking boutique luxury; Ku’damm shopping and Charlottenburg cafés; travelers who value quiet, comfortable rooms

• Watch out for: expensive breakfast and dining; transit needed for many Mitte sights; paid parking

• Location: Quieter Charlottenburg setting, with Ku’damm and Zoologischer Garten station within walking distance.

• Rooms: Characterful interiors and much-praised beds; entry-level rooms are more compact than superior categories.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff dominate recent feedback, despite occasional less-positive accounts.

• Amenities: French brasserie, cocktail bar, rooftop sauna, treatment spa and gym; spa and gym access are included.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking, pet stays and spa treatments carry additional charges.
