Axel's take: 8.5/10

A comfortable sightseeing base with excellent transport, but check renovation plans before booking. An upscale 4-star city hotel beside the Spree, scored for what it is.

Meliá Berlin is an upscale 4-star beside the Spree, and a strong pick for exploring Berlin without complicated journeys. Friedrichstraße station is minutes away, with Museum Island and the Brandenburg Gate within walking distance. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, comfortable rooms, helpful staff and the breakfast spread. Cleanliness scores are strong across major booking sites, and The Level lounge earns particularly enthusiastic feedback from guests who book that upgrade.

The main caveat is renovation work: management has acknowledged refurbishment, and an October 2026 HolidayCheck guest still reported construction on the fifth floor. Confirm the current scope and request an unaffected room. Some guests also mention street noise or slow check-in. We'd choose it for convenience and comfort, but skip it if guaranteed quiet is essential.

• Best for: First-time Berlin sightseers; Travelers using public transport; Couples wanting a comfortable central base

• Watch out for: Renovation work: confirm affected floors; Possible street noise; Occasional check-in queues

• Location: Riverside Mitte location, minutes from Friedrichstraße station and walkable to major sights.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; condition and street-noise exposure vary.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, despite a minority of recent housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Frequently praised as helpful and professional; reception queues occasionally frustrate guests.

• Amenities: Sauna, small gym, tapas bar and breakfast buffet; The Level lounge requires an eligible booking.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast may cost extra; renovation work was still reported in October 2026.
