Axel's take: 8.3/10
A strong budget base if you’re happy to trade downtown charm for tram convenience. a no-frills 3-star self-service hotel outside central Bergen, scored for what it is.
Citybox Bergen Danmarksplass is a no-frills 3-star self-service hotel, and a strong pick for travelers who prioritize a clean room and comfortable bed over hotel extras. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise those basics, while the nearby light rail makes the city center and airport straightforward to reach. The shared kitchen and laundry add practical value, and hosts are available around the clock despite the automated check-in.
The compromises are deliberate: rooms are minimally furnished, smaller categories can feel tight, and included housekeeping is weekly rather than daily. Breakfast costs extra, and complaints about its limited choice recur across sites; we’d consider preparing your own instead. Choose it for a simple, well-connected base, but skip it if you want full service or Bergen’s historic sights right outside.
-
Best for: budget-conscious couples and solo travelers; travelers comfortable with self-service; longer trips needing laundry access
-
Watch out for: outside the historic center; weekly rather than daily housekeeping; extra-cost breakfast draws recurring criticism
-
Location: Near Danmarksplass light rail, with convenient links to central Bergen and the airport.
-
Rooms: Modern, minimal private rooms; comfortable beds earn repeated praise, but smaller categories can be cramped.
-
Cleanliness: A consistent strength: Booking.com scores cleanliness 8.7, Expedia 8.8, supported by recent guest comments.
-
Service: Automated check-in with hosts available 24/7; recent guests praise helpful assistance when needed.
-
Amenities: Shared basic kitchen, TV lounge, free Wi-Fi and paid self-service laundry emphasize practicality.
-
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and extra cleaning cost more; included cleaning is weekly, and parking is offsite and paid.
