Axel's take: 8.9/10

Polished city luxury with standout service and shopping convenience, but a modest pool. a renovated five-star city hotel beside Chit Lom BTS, scored for what it is.

InterContinental Bangkok is a full-service five-star city hotel, and a strong pick for comfortable luxury with shopping and transport close by. Its comprehensive renovation was completed in June 2023. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms, welcoming staff and generous breakfasts. Chit Lom BTS and the nearby malls make this a particularly practical Bangkok base; the substantial gym and well-liked Club Lounge strengthen the package.

The main compromise is the rooftop pool: good for a cooling dip and city views, but small for a hotel of this class. Recent guests on both Tripadvisor and Expedia also describe occasional rooms not being ready after the stated check-in time, although service recovery earns praise. We'd choose it for a shopping or business stay, not a pool-focused escape.

• Best for: shopping-focused city breaks; business travelers using the BTS; travelers considering Club Lounge access

• Watch out for: small rooftop pool; occasional room-readiness delays; smoking room categories available

• Location: Excellent for CentralWorld, Gaysorn and Chit Lom BTS.

• Rooms: Renovated, spacious rooms draw strong comfort reviews; select a non-smoking category if needed.

• Cleanliness: Consistent praise across recent guest reviews, including Expedia and Booking.com.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength; occasional check-in delays interrupt the polish.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, substantial gym, spa and multiple restaurants; Club Lounge access depends on booking.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; check breakfast and Club access inclusions, with airport transfers and extra beds charged separately.
