Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong budget riverside pick, with a pool that outshines the basic rooms. a budget 3-star hotel on the Chao Phraya river, scored for what it is.

ibis Bangkok Riverside is a budget 3-star whose riverfront setting makes it more appealing than a standard city ibis. We'd choose it for good value, pool time and breakfast overlooking passing boats—not stylish interiors. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the riverside grounds, helpful staff and generally clean accommodation. ICONSIAM and neighborhood food options are within walking distance, making this a practical base if you prefer the river to central Bangkok's bustle.

The compromises are compact, plainly furnished rooms and less immediate access to the BTS. Housekeeping is not completely consistent: several guests on Accor and Tripadvisor describe delayed cleaning, room-condition issues or musty smells, although positive reports remain the stronger pattern. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, polished service or doorstep rail access matter more than the pool and waterfront.

• Best for: budget-conscious couples; families wanting pool time; travelers who prefer a riverside base

• Watch out for: compact, basic standard rooms; some housekeeping and room-freshness complaints; a walk to BTS connections

• Location: Directly on the river; ICONSIAM and local eateries are walkable, but BTS access takes more effort.

• Rooms: Standard rooms are approximately 21 square meters, with a fridge, kettle and separately bookable river-view categories.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised, with a smaller but recurring pattern of cleaning delays and room-freshness issues.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive frequent praise; housekeeping follow-through is less consistent.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, riverside garden, restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi and complimentary self-parking.

• Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast is included; early check-in, late checkout and rollaway beds can cost extra.
